Registering a .au domain name

.au direct names launched on 24 March 2022. .au domain names are now available to register.

.au direct domain names – like getyour.au - are shorter, simpler domain names and are available as a new option for Australian Internet users. For more information please see the official .au Domain Administration Limited (auDA) release article.

Anyone with an acitve ABN can register a .au domain name. If you have an existing .com.au (.net.au or .org.au) domain name you will have first priority until September 2022 to register the .au version. After September anyone from the public can then register the .au domain if it has not already been secured.

Make sure you have registered the .au version of your existing .com.au domain by September

To secure your .au domain please follow the steps below:

1. Login to our domain management system using your existing account/password.

2. Click on the order tab – type in the domain required, select the .au and click the search button

3. . From the domain search screen add the .au domain to the cart and click Continue to checkout

4. On the Hosting and Extras screen – just click continue.

5. Registrant Contact – should be right to select the existing one or add new as required.

6. Enter your ABN details – if registering the .au version of an existing .au domain the ABN MUST be the same and must still be active as the one that is listed on your existing .com.au (.net.au, .org.au) domain, otherwise the registration process will fail.

- If you are unsure or use multiple ABNs you can use this tool here provided by the auDA to look up the ABN attached to your current domain name.

- If the ABN listed on your existing .au domain is not currently active and in a cancelled state the registration process will fail. You will need to update the existing domain first with a current active ABN, please contact us to complete a change of registrant on the domain.

7. Payment – Select a valid credit card or add a new one if required and click Place your order

8. Order complete – You should get an order submitted successfully confirmation screen. It will take 1-2 weeks for it to be processed, you should get a confirmation email that the domain has been registered. If it still has not been registered within 2 weeks then contact us directly.
